Our Safe & Effective Sedation Can Help You:

Feel Relaxed

Dental sedation puts you at ease, enabling you to undergo dental care while feeling relaxed and comfortable. This makes for a more pleasant experience, even for patients with severe dental anxiety or those who need extensive treatment.

Get the Treatment You Need

By addressing your fear of the dentist, sedation dentistry can improve your oral health and your appearance. Sedation can help you feel comfortable undergoing routine and restorative dental care, allowing you to achieve and maintain a healthy and beautiful smile.

Recover Quickly

Because our Idaho Falls dental office uses a mild form of sedation, the aftereffects are very minimal. Nitrous oxide has a quick onset and quickly dissipates from the body, meaning you can usually drive yourself home after your procedure without worrying about feeling woozy or disoriented.

If you are afraid of the dentist, don't worry. You are not alone...

Idaho Falls Sedation Dentistry

Stress-free Dental Care

Sleeping womanDental care is a necessary factor in maintaining good oral health. While we strive to do everything we can to make our cosmetic dental practice a warm and welcoming place in which to undergo dental treatments, we know that for some patients even the most basic dental care can be a cause of stress and anxiety. Unfortunately, these feelings can cause patients to neglect oral health care, resulting in dental problems and the need for more extensive dental work. For our Ammon, Blackfoot, Rexburg, Shelley, and Idaho Falls patients, sedation dentistry can relax a patient to ease anxieties and allow for stress-free dental care.

Candidates

Sedation dentistry is a safe and effective treatment that is free of side effects. For this reason it is an effective option for patients of all ages who have experienced any of the following:

  • Extreme anxiety or fear regarding scheduling dental appointments or undergoing dental care
  • The need for extensive dental care as the result of neglected dental treatment
  • Severe gag reflex or jaw soreness during dental care
  • Difficulty getting numb or responding to local anesthetic

In any of these situations, sedation dentistry can relax a patient so that necessary dental care can be provided while the patient is comfortable and free of stress. The only patients who may be poor candidates for sedation dentistry are women in their first trimester of pregnancy or patients with emphysema.

Treatment

At Sandcreek Dental, we use a form of oral sedation dentistry. Using a canister of nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, patients inhale a combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a small breathing tube and mask. This method has not only been proven to be safe but is highly effective in producing an immediate feeling of relaxation and well-being. The level of sedation that is used is one of the mildest levels of sedation available. While patients are free of anxiety, stress, and pain, they remain awake, alert, and aware of their surroundings. This sedation is applied throughout treatment and can be utilized to make general dentistry, restorative dentistry, or cosmetic dentistry treatments comfortable for our patients.

Risks

Many patients are curious about the risks of sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry has been in practice for many years and has been proven as a safe and effective treatment. Not only is sedation dentistry safe but for the majority of patients it is free of side effects as well. On a rare occasion a patient may experience nausea as a result of sedation dentistry. Treatment may also leave a patient feeling tired so we do require that patients be given a ride home following treatment to avoid any accidents or injury.
