Metal braces are the most popular orthodontic treatment at Sandcreek Dental, and a proven traditional method of correcting misalignment. Dr. Mark Tall can place metal braces at his comfortable Idaho Falls, ID, practice. With skillfully and precisely placed braces, Dr. Tall can improve your appearance and give your smile greater symmetry. We proudly use the Damon® system of orthodontic treatment, which is more comfortable and efficient than older types of braces.
Traditional metal braces are suitable for both adolescents and adults. Typically, Dr. Tall will wait until your child has most of his or her adult teeth before placing braces. However, in select cases, young children may benefit from early treatment. If you or your child struggles with any of the following orthodontic issues, you may be a candidate for braces:
Before the placement of traditional braces, Dr. Tall will consult with you and design a personalized treatment plan. At your consultation, he will take x-rays and cone beam scans, and make impressions of your teeth. With these images and molds, he will determine the right position for your braces. When creating your treatment plan, Dr. Tall will also determine the exact placement of the brackets and the force needed for the arch wire.
When you come in for the placement of your braces, Dr. Tall will first clean and polish your teeth. Then he will lightly etch your dental enamel to ensure the fit of the brackets. This process will not affect the look of your smile once the braces come off. Next he will attach the brackets to each of your teeth using a special glue or tooth-colored dental cement. In some cases, he may harden the material with a curing light.
Dr. Tall has years of experience with cosmetic dentistry and orthodontia. He will carefully position the braces to achieve a gentle yet effective tension to straighten your teeth.
Finally, Dr. Tall will attach an arch wire to the brackets. At Sandcreek Dental, we proudly use the Damon® system, which eliminates the rubber bands needed to keep the brackets in place. Instead, this system uses a clear slide mechanism, which reduces friction and discomfort during treatment. The brackets also place less force on your teeth, as well as expedite your treatment time.
After your braces are in place, you will need to schedule regular follow-ups. Normally, with braces, your dentist would tighten the arch wire at each visit. However, the innovative Damon® system does not require tightening. Instead, Dr. Tall will simply monitor your progress at each of your office visits. Braces will usually remain on your teeth for 18 to 24 months. Over the course of your treatment, the gentle pressure from the wire will gradually straighten your smile
Traditional metal braces have a proven track record of producing effective results. Apart from a straighter, symmetrical smile, there are several benefits of undergoing this treatment, such as improved oral functions and teeth that are easier to clean.
