If you are missing a tooth, it is important to replace it as soon as possible. A missing tooth can affect your appearance and oral health. A dental bridge closes the gap left by a missing tooth or teeth with a natural-looking prosthetic. With our state-of-the-art CEREC® machine, we can craft and place your dental bridge in one visit. CEREC® is a computerized system that utilizes 3-D photography, software, and a milling unit to create high-quality same-day bridges and crowns. Our Idaho Falls dentist, Dr. Mark Tall, invested in this technology to provide maximum quality and convenience for his patients. To find out how you can have a custom bridge placed in hours instead of weeks, contact us today.
A dental bridge is a restoration that bridges the space created by one or more missing teeth. If the gap is not bridged, it can interfere with your ability to speak and chew properly. It can also allow the remaining teeth to drift out of position, which can result in a misaligned bite. Replacing the tooth also distributes the bite force equally among your teeth, so that undue pressure is not placed on the remaining teeth.
A traditional bridge uses crowns for support, and the treatment process can be completed in one appointment. To affix the bridge, Dr. Tall will place crowns on the natural teeth remaining on either side of the space. This requires the removal of a small amount of the tooth's structure to accommodate the crown. Once the teeth have been prepared, Dr. Tall will use the CEREC® machine to take digital impressions of the treatment area. The milling machine will then fabricate the crowns and bridge, made of one solid unit, according to your precise measurements and the design specifications Dr. Tall enters into the software. The crowns can be cemented onto the adjacent teeth, with the bridge filling in the gap left by the missing teeth.
Dr. Tall can also place implant-supported bridges. For this treatment option, the bridge is held in place by dental implants, small titanium posts which are surgically placed in the jawbone.
Our practice invested in CEREC® technology because of the huge benefit it provides for patients. CEREC® uses computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology to take digital impressions of your teeth and mill the restorations out of blocks of porcelain. The system guarantees the most accurate impressions of your teeth, without the use of messy putty and uncomfortable trays. This information creates a virtual restoration that Dr. Tall will refine with software. The digital prototype is then sent to the milling unit, which creates crowns and bridges while you wait.
Same-day bridges provide a number of benefits including:
Made from e.max® porcelain, the restorations are 100% metal-free and have a beautiful translucency that will closely match your natural teeth.
