With state-of-the-art CEREC® dental technology at our Idaho Falls, ID, office, Dr. Mark Tall can offer patients beautiful, lifelike dental crowns and other restorations in a single visit. Dr. Tall has extensive experience in restorative dentistry, and he can provide patients better restorations than ever before with this technology. Our patients love their beautifully restored smiles, and they love that it only takes one office visit with CEREC.
CEREC is an acronym for chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics. This advanced technology uses CAD/CAM software and a small, integrated milling unit to create completely custom dental restorations out of porcelain. The software uses digital 3D imaging to scan the teeth. Dr. Tall can then easily manipulate these images to design a dental crown, an inlay or onlay, or a same-day bridge. Because CEREC restorations are made from porcelain, he can ensure the shade matches your surrounding teeth for a seamless look. The milling unit then carves the restoration from a single block of ceramic, right in our office.
Our patients love their beautifully restored smiles, they love that it only takes one office visit.
The first step in the process is a full examination by Dr. Tall. He will carefully evaluate your teeth to determine which type of restoration is needed. Then, after numbing the treatment area, he can begin the process of removing any decayed or damaged parts of the tooth. Once he has reshaped your tooth (or teeth), he will apply a non-toxic powder to the teeth. He can then use an intraoral camera to take digital images of the tooth.
With the 3D imaging software, Dr. Tall can design a restoration to fit your tooth. Once he has created the design, this data is transmitted to the milling unit. Then the milling unit will begin carving your restoration from a block of ceramic that matches the shade of your natural teeth. It is usually ready in less than 20 minutes. Dr. Tall can then proceed to place your crown, bridge, inlay, or onlay on your tooth and cement it firmly into place.
Our patients love CEREC technology for two primary reasons. First, they do not need to wear a temporary restoration. Temporaries are often uncomfortable, and patients may worry about the temporary coming loose or falling out.
Second, the process takes just one dental appointment. Traditional restorative procedures take two or more appointments to complete, and they require the doctor to take impressions of the teeth with dental putty before sending them off to a lab. It could take two to three weeks to get the restoration back from the lab.
With CEREC, there is no need for a lab and no need for a second appointment. Just as important, Dr. Tall can create the most comfortable restoration because he has complete control over the design and can make adjustments as needed to ensure a secure and comfortable fit.
If you need to have a tooth restored with a crown or replaced with a bridge, wouldn't you rather do it in one appointment instead of two? To learn more about how we use this advanced technology in our practice, contact our office today.
