It is not uncommon to experience intense anxiety and fear when it comes to visiting the dentist. Some patients, however, experience a level of anxiety that can prevent them from pursuing dental care. For these patients, we are happy to provide sedation dentistry to help with their treatment. A good candidate for sedation dentistry would be someone who experiences extreme anxiety undergoing dental care, has a severe gag reflex or jaw soreness, or has difficulty with local anesthetics. Today, Dr. Mark Tall
is writing to his patients in Ammon, Blackfoot, Rexburg, Shelley, and Idaho Falls to let them know just what sedation dentistry
can do for them.
Go Stress Free with Sedation Dentistry
Here at Sandcreek Dental, we use the oral form of sedation for our patients. This method is administered in the form of a gas, commonly called laughing gas. The gas is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen which is administered through a breathing tube and mask. Laughing gas is considered a light form of sedation because while it is calming, the patient still retains a feeling of alertness, whereas a moderate level of sedation would leave the patient groggy to the point where they may completely forget they even had a procedure done.
There are many benefits to having your dental procedures done while under sedation. After having a few dental procedures done with sedation that are comfortable and painless, some patients may overcome their anxiety and no longer need sedation on their next visit. Another benefit of sedation dentistry is patients who would normally avoid dental care because of anxiety are finally getting the treatment they need. Sedation dentistry also comes with very few actual risks. In fact, the worst thing that might happen while using sedation is that you may be too tired to drive yourself home. We recommend having someone pick you up and drop you off in order to avoid any potential accidents.
