If you suffer from extreme anxiety over dental procedures, there is a solution. Sandcreek Dental of Idaho Falls offers sedation dentistry for patients that cringe at the very thought of dental procedures. This is especially beneficial for patients who have a sensitive gag reflex, fear of needles, or an overwhelming anxiety over dental procedures. Sedation dentistry can help you break the vicious cycle of not getting dental work done out of fear, and then needing extra dental work from the neglect. Did you know? 1 in 7 adults in the United States experience anxiety over dental procedures! You are not alone in your fear, and we’ve helped many patients before you.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry involves the use of sedation techniques to calm your anxiety during dental procedures. The type of sedation we use at Sandcreek Dental is nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. The result is a mild sedation where you are still conscious but incredibly relaxed during the whole procedure. The nitrous oxide may also keep you sedated for some time after the procedure, continuing to calm your nerves. Sedation dentistry is ideal for patients who:
· Have a fear of needles.
· Need a lot of dental work done.
· Have a sensitive gag reflex.
· Have difficulty getting numb.
· Need complex procedures done.
At Sandcreek Dental, we sedate you by using nitrous oxide. You will breathe in a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a small breathing tube and mask. The nitrous oxide is administered throughout the treatment. The patient is left responsive and conscious, but very relaxed.
What the Patient Needs to Know
Nitrous oxide is virtually free from side effects, apart from the rare occasion where patient experiences nausea. We make sure to take every precaution when performing sedation dentistry, always providing ultimate safety and comfort for our patients. Our dentists and staff are expertly trained in sedation dentistry. We also ask that someone is able to drive you to and from your dental procedure.
